NOTICE: This is written as a response to Rich Maloy's article "Totem Talk: Enhancing your gear in only four dungeons" on WoW.com on August 28th, 2010. For posterity, the most current patch is 3.3.5.

While I definitely appreciate this list, I do find it somewhat funny that, at the top of the priority list is getting Expertise capped, but there is literally not a single piece of gear on the list that has a shred of Expertise. Not a fault of the poster that the best gear doesn't have it, but I do find it somewhat chuckle-worthy.

But I do agree on the comment above about adding in a good list of Triumph emblem gear, since if you're gonna be running these places a bunch, it's inevitable that you'll be getting a ton of emblems. So here's my helpful little list (I'm leveling an Enh Shaman right now, so it's something I've been looking into).

Tier 9 Alliance:

Tier 9 Chest: Nobundo's Chestguard of Conquest - 50 Emblems
Tier 9 Head: Nobundo's Faceguard of Conquest - 50 Emblems
Tier 9 Shoulders: Nobundo's Shoulderguards of Conquest - 30 Emblems
Tier 9 Legs: Nobundo's War-Kilt of Conquest - 50 Emblems
Tier 9 Gloves: Nobundo's Grips of Conquest - 30 Emblems (52 Expertise)

Non-Tier Alliance:

Head: Helm of the Brooding Dragon - 75 Emblems
Shoulders: Epaulets of the Devourer - 45 Emblems
Totem: Totem of Quaking Earth - 25 Emblems
Finger: Dexterous Brightstone Ring - 35 Emblems
Trinket: Shard of the Crystal Heart - 50 Emblems
Trinket: Mark of Supremacy - 50 Emblems

Tier 9 Horde:

Tier 9 Chest: Thrall's Chestguard of Conquest - 50 Emblems
Tier 9 Head: Thrall's Faceguard of Conquest - 50 Emblems
Tier 9 Shoulders: Thrall's Shouldguards of Conquest - 30 Emblems
Tier 9 Legs: Thrall's War-Kilt of Conquest - 50 Emblems
Tier 9 Gloves: Thrall's Grips of Conquest - 30 Emblems (52 Expertise)

Non-Tier Horde:

Head: Coif of the Brooding Dragon - 75 Emblems
Shoulders: Pauldrons of the Devourer - 45 Emblems
Totem: Totem of Quaking Earth - 25 Emblems
Finger: Dexterous Brightstone Ring - 35 Emblems
Trinket: Shard of the Crystal Heart - 50 Emblems
Trinket: Mark of Supremacy - 50 Emblems

NOTE: These 2 trinkets (same for both Alliance and Horde) both have a base hit rating of 128, so if you do decide to go with these 2, that's 256 of your 341 or 367 cap right there, freeing you up to look for some other gear without hit. Not to mention they have some pretty nice On Use effects.

It's pretty interesting to see that, combined with both the Triumph Emblem gear and the drops from the newer 5-mans, there's seriously ONE piece of gear with Expertise on it (unless you count the Crimson Star throwing weapon, which is unusable for Shamans). I even checked to see if any of the craftable mail gear had Expertise, and again, nothing. So if you got the Tier 9 gloves and you wanted to hit expertise cap, you would need to get 4 Precise Cardinal Rubies (+20 Expertise) and probably one Accurate Ametrine (+10 Expertise +10 Hit). Not a crazy amount of gems, but it's an unfortunate loss of AP. Thankfully there's plenty of pieces of gear with hit so that cap doesn't become too difficult.

I was planning on leaving this response at that, but I decided to see if I could find what the most optimal (yet relatively easier to get) pieces of gear from raids that HAVE Expertise on them were. I define "relatively easier to get" as, 10-man normal mode raids, and only from the easier bosses (granted I realize that "easier" is subjective, but bear with me). I'm also trying to avoid any gear that has ArP on it as well, along with staying in the iLevel 232+ range.

Trial of the Crusader 10-man:
Trinket: Victor's Call (Alliance) and Vengeance of the Forsaken (Horde) - Drops from Faction Champions (83 Expertise)

This, plus the Tier 9 gloves puts you at 135 Expertise. With a 140 soft cap, I'd say you'd be safe not needing any more. Unfortunately unless you have a guild to take you in there, finding normal ToC 10-mans is somewhat difficult.

Icecrown Citadel 10-man:
Back: Shawl of Nerubian Silk - Drops from Lord Marrowgar (56 Expertise)

I run ICC 10-man almost every single week on my main and I can't honestly say I've seen this drop all that often, but if you can get into a 10-man ICC pug with moderate level gear, taking down Marrowgar is pretty easy.

Ruby Sanctum 10-man:
Neck: Baltharus' Gift - Drops from Halion (41 Expertise)

I went ahead and put this on here because, frankly, I find the Halion 10-man fight pretty easy if you know what you're doing, and the other stats on it make it a killer Enh Shaman item.

Anyways, hopefully this list helps! Take care.
